Beginner 1
This course is designed for people with limited or no prior knowledge of French. Participants will develop their capability to ask and answer simple questions. In this course, the focus will be on the present tense but recent past and future will also be taught in order to allow students to interact within familiar situations in past, present and future. Beginner 2
This course is designed for people with some knowledge of French and who are able to form simple sentences (Subject + Verb + Object). In this course, the focus will be on the present, recent past and future of essential verbs as well as on the introduction of the imperative. As a result, the student will be able to provide basic description in a satisfactory way. Beginner 3
This course is designed for people who are able to ask and answer simple questions and who can provide basic descriptions. In this course, students will enhance their ability to provide more detailed descriptions. The emphasis will be on the imparfait and how to use it as well as the introduction of the conditionnel. Students will develop basic work-related vocabulary enabling them to make requests and give instructions. French Program B
Program B for French is designed for students whose linguistic profiles correspond to "false beginner". False beginner students have passive academic knowledge of French that has been acquired through conventional courses. CILFO's French Program B corresponds to the general conditions of PSC's Level B linguistic level. The course of study for French Program B focuses on the basics of French grammar. Students are introduced to such areas as the main verb tenses, subject pronouns, question formation, idiomatic expressions, basic vocabulary, and prepositions. Students also work towards clarifying their communication through pronunciation, intonation, phonetics and rhythm exercises. Since CILFO's approach is to focus on conversation, a significant portion of all classes is spent practicing the theory presented in conversations and role-playing activities. French Program C
Program C for French is designed for students who have a linguistic level near PSC's Level B. French Program C has a grammar, a vocabulary, a communication strategies and an oral comprehension component. In the grammar component, students review some of the basics of French grammar and then progress into learning more complex grammatical elements. Some of the more complex grammatical elements that are covered include passive voice, direct speech and the conditional. In regards to the vocabulary presented in French Program C, students are presented with idiomatic expressions, collocations, work-related and general vocabulary. Part of the process for learning a language is to practice delivering information smoothly by giving structure to a story and filling gaps. This is practiced in the communications strategy component of French Program C. In the oral comprehension component, students practice writing summaries of oral material, as well as listen to broadcasts on specific themes and current subjects. French Program Intermediate
Intermediate 1
This course is designed for people who are able to give simple descriptions and explanations in the past, present and future, to make requests and to give instructions. In this course, the emphasis will be put on the utilization of the imparfait, passé composé and conditionnel. Thus, students will be capable of interacting with others about work-related subjects (responsibilities, procedures, etc.) Intermediate 2
This course is designed for people who are able to explain and describe in details simple situations in the past, present and future and interact with others about basic work-related situations. In this course, the emphasis will be put on the sequences of past tenses and the ability to place events on a timeline, enabling students to start and continue a conversation in predictable work-related situations. Intermediate 3
This course is designed for people who are able to interact in the past, present and future and who are capable of starting and continuing a conversation on predictable work-related situations. In this course, the emphasis will be put on the ability to give an opinion on everyday and work-related subjects. As a result, students will be able to interact efficiently in less familiar situations. French Program Advanced
This course is designed for people capable of expressing an opinion about a usual or work-related subject as well as being able to interact efficiently with others in less familiar situations. In this course, the emphasis will be on the ability to argue. Thus, students will be able to express and justify an opinion. French Development Program
This program allows students at all levels to improve their grammar skills and their ability to express themselves in French. It has no pre-established length or plan since it adapts to the needs of the student. French Specialized Program
This program is designed to prepare the student for a meeting, conference or workshop of indeterminate length on a specific subject. The student learns to use the French terminology related to the situation via conversation and role playing. |
